Bringing awareness of the body more consciously into our therapy work will naturally enhance our experience and create deeper change. In this Institute we will use verbal process, somatic awareness and didactic learning to explore how we can integrate the rich nuances of the body into our therapeutic group work.
This institute is open to AGPS members who are students, new professionals, or intermediate level group practitioners.

Barbara E. Davis, LCSW, CGP is in private practice in Austin, Texas. She led her first therapy group in 1969 as a budding therapist on the staff of the new community mental health center, MH-MR. She has led a variety of groups since then, including structured, time limited groups, gestalt style groups, long term process groups, some with a body orientation, and groups for people dealing with serious physical illnesses. Past group influences have been John Gladfelter, Earl Koile, and Yvonne Agazarian. She was president of AGPS in our early years. Barbara is on the faculty of the International Society for Bioenergetic Analysis, and she has taught in the area of somatic psychotherapy in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Brazil. She has had an ongoing interest in integrating psychoanalytic thought with a body orientation and more recently was trained in Somatic Experiencing, Emotionally Focused Therapy, a Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy, and participates in Modern Psychoanalytic Group Therapy supervision.
