"Privilege exists when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to, rather than because of anything they've done or failed to do."
-Peggy McIntosh, Invisible Knapsack

Ani Mirasol, LCSW will host this discussion, utilizing readings from Marilyn Frye  and Peggy McIntosh to guide our exploration of how privilege, structural oppression, and intersectionality are woven into the foundations of our society and, by extension, our therapy groups. Participants will have the opportunity to talk through the ways group leaders can address these issues when they arise overtly or covertly in our groups.

Participants are encouraged to check out these media resources before the conversation:

TedTalks:
"How Studying Privilege Systems Can Strengthen Compassion" by Peggy McIntosh

"Pedagogy of Privilege" by Justin Ford
