MEMBERSHIP IN AGPSAGPS trainings and social events are designed to mentor new professionals and students, expand the knowledge and clinical skills of all members, and enrich and rejuvenate established practitioners. At the center of our training opportunities are Fall and Spring workshops facilitated by internationally recognized experts in the field of group theory and practice. Additional trainings by local professionals cover a broad range of topics. In addition to these workshops, our popular Friday Night Conversation Series provides an opportunity for learning in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. This series of informal discussions of group-related topics is hosted by members in their homes and facilitates closer connections among AGPS members. Our annual party each fall is also a great time to meet new people and visit with friends and colleagues. Members of AGPS receive regular mailings of The Voice: The Newsletter of the Austin Group Psychotherapy Society. The Voice contains clinical articles, interviews with guest presenters, society information, and an extensive listing of psychotherapy groups led by our members. Membership Levels Benefactor and Sustainer level members have the unique opportunity to contribute beyond regular membership dues to promote the professional activities and community outreach of AGPS. In addition to the benefits at the Contributor level of membership listed below, Benefactors and Sustainers also have the benefit of being specially recognized in spring and fall issues of The Voice, the widely circulated newsletter of AGPS. Contributor level members receive all the great benefits of AGPS membership including: complimentary listing of their group offerings in The Voice and on our AGPS website; fall and spring issues of The Voice; invitations to spring and fall training conferences featuring nationally recognized group psychotherapy facilitators; invitations to several training workshops led by experienced practitioners from Austin's own group therapy community; and invitation to the annual AGPS fall party. Often our professional enhancement opportunities provide necessary continuing education credits at an affordable fee. |
Membership Categories
Clinical members are clinical professionals who are active at the Member or Fellow level of membership in the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA). Clinical members may participate in the affairs and activities of AGPS, including voting and holding the office of President.
Associate members are clinical professionals and Associate members of AGPA. Associate members may participate in all the affairs and activities of AGPS, including voting and holding office, except they cannot hold the office of the President.
Affiliate members are mental health professionals who are interested in group psychotherapy but are not members of AGPA. Affiliate members may participate in all the affairs and activities of AGPS with the exception of voting and holding elected office.
Student members are enrolled in training programs to become mental health professionals. They will be asked to provide proof of student status, such as a photocopy of a student ID or copy of current class schedule. Student members may participate in all the affairs and activities of AGPS with the exception of voting and holding elected office.
